Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced that the company has been selected as one of 15 industry companies (air navigation service providers and airports) to join the European Air Traffic Control Organization (Eurocontrol) and the European Commission Joint Action for the European Integrated Air Traffic Management Research Project (SESAR JU).
SESAR JU represents the technical pillar of European sky integration. "European Sky Integration" is a plan initiated by the European Commission to reform the European air traffic management system architecture.
Honeywell has invested more than 40 million euros to provide support for defining key operating concepts, developing related technologies, and demonstrating operational long-term planning, and is proud of this.
SESAR JU will be responsible for managing the development phase, starting now and ending in 2013. During and after the development phase, mass production and deployment of a globally unified and interoperable new ATM (air traffic management) system will take place. SESAR JU’s goal is to increase air traffic capacity by 3 times, increase safety by 10 times, reduce ATM costs by 50%, and reduce environmental impact by 10%.
